MEET THE ARTIST

Hi! Thank You for visiting my website!

My name is Kristin Thornton. I'm a 27 year old Maine Artist.

I'm constantly in search for new projects, be it an acrylic painting on canvas, a gauche on mixed media paper,  a doodle in my favorite sketchbook, a pile of fabric begging to be something altogether new or a wholly new medium challenging me to try it.

I'm always open to let inspiration find me. I try to approach the world with wonder and gratitude. It is easy to be inspired when you live in a state like Maine that is so overly abundant with natural beauty.

I opened my own tattoo studio when I was 19. I had no rebel cause, but a deep love and passion for the art form. However, I had to close the studio when my health declined.

I am chronically ill. Lyme disease and several common co-infections, which are terrible enough on their own, triggered an autoimmune disorder which then resulted in a condition called Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, or CIDP for short. I was the perfect storm. Luckily I have an incredible support system and a habit to look for beauty and blessings even in the darkest places.

Since becoming ill I have spent more time than ever focusing on my artwork. There are some days I can do little else but draw. At times it feels like the universe is telling me to throw my whole self into my work. And so, I do so joyfully.

I share about my struggles in hopes that it will bring awareness to the Lyme Disease Epidemic, CIDP and those who struggle every day with chronic illness.

I am sick, but my world is not dark. I have failed so many times at things I've tried to do, but in doing so I've learned self compassion and I've learned not to fear failure. Instead I look for the beauty and in my own way, share it through my art work.
